The 2020s: Resilience, Renewal, and a New Generation of Champions

The 2020s have been unlike any other decade in league history. They began with an unprecedented challenge as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 season—the first time since the league was founded in 1976 that a champion was not crowned. While the fields sat empty, the league’s spirit remained strong, and the anticipation for its return only grew.

When play resumed in 2021, the league entered a new chapter defined by competitive balance, fresh rivalries, and a new generation of champions. Rather than being dominated by a single franchise, the decade has showcased a league where several organizations have enjoyed success, creating one of the most competitive eras in its 50-year history.

The Bandits quickly established themselves as one of the decade’s most consistent organizations. Since 2017, they have captured five B Division championships in nine seasons, including the league’s first-ever three consecutive B Division titles. Their sustained success has made them the benchmark for consistency in the modern era and one of the league’s premier franchises.

Meanwhile, the Tigers -> Moosehead Taproom Tigers have emerged as the decade’s dominant A Division team. Winning championships in 2022, 2024, and 2025, they have become the first franchise of the modern era to establish a sustained championship window, proving that while parity defines today’s league, excellence can still be maintained over multiple seasons.

The decade has also seen the continued rise of new contenders. The Volunteers established themselves as a perennial regular-season powerhouse, while the Brick City Bombers -> Nineteen Plus Bombers added their names to the championship history books. The Nineteen Plus Bombers have also claimed four B Division championships in just eight seasons, highlighted by two impressive back-to-back championship runs. The arrival of teams such as the Vipers and Renegades further demonstrates the league’s remarkable depth, where every season presents new opportunities for teams to compete and grow.

More than any decade before it, the 2020s have been defined by opportunity. Every season begins with multiple legitimate championship contenders, making the race for both the regular season and the playoffs as exciting and unpredictable as ever.

 Legacy of the Decade

Although the decade is still being written, the 2020s have already secured their place in league history. They represent a story of resilience, beginning with the unprecedented cancellation of the 2020 season and continuing with the successful return of league play. They also mark the arrival of a new generation of contenders who have embraced the league’s competitive balance and continued to build upon the traditions established over the previous five decades.

As the league celebrates its 50th Anniversary, one question still remains.

Who will become the 50th Anniversary Season Champion?

Will the Tigers continue their championship run? Will another familiar contender rise to the occasion? Or will a new name be added to the league’s storied history?

Only time will tell.

When the final whistle blows on Super Saturday, who will earn the right to be crowned the 50th Anniversary Season Champion, adding its name to a championship legacy that began in 1976.

For fifty years, every season has added another chapter to the league’s remarkable story.

The next chapter is still waiting to be written.
